While driving into work this morning, just before midday, Kim Hill on the National Programme was waffling on about something about Shakespeare. The one bit I picked up on was her and her interviewee musing as to whether one character's name was pronounced "Iaygo" or "Iahgo".

My first thought was "let's call the whole thing off".

Oh gods I'm old...

I've always heard it pronounced as 'Iahgo"

I hear various different pronounciations of the word. Luckily he isn't around to take offence, (1) being fictional and (2) even if he hadn't been fictional, he'd have been dead for hundreds of years.

I was more worried that the first thing I thought of was that old song about "I say tomayto, you say tomato, let's call the whole thing off" (or something like that).

I thought it was pronounced EE-yah-go. Like the parrot.

I was just worried that the first thing I thought of was an old (1950s or so) song...
