The computer is back. Apparently it spent all weekend being comprehensively tested out and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It has been suggested to me that the computer was sulking because it wanted a ride in my car. Now my car is sulking as well (it has been refusing point blank to idle when cold, which makes it very difficult to start) and has been booked in to be Fixed as soon as possible (Monday, hopefully).

There is now apparently a set of rules for Cripple Mr Onion. They look just about complicated enough.

axiomatic_axe, how is that Ubuntu powered cigarette lighter supposed to work again? Twice now I've tried to get it to boot up on my machine and it just does nothing. I plug it in and hit F12 at start up and still it just either hangs and does nothing, or else it starts up on Windows as if it wasn't there at all.

Weather is still crappity crappity crap crap crap. I want my global warming dammit!

Clearly, the fault fell out of your computer and into your car. Try going over some speed bumps to dislodge the fault from your car so it falls onto the road and becomes a pothole.

Hmmm... that idea has possibilities, but I think there's already a big enough fault in the ground hereabouts...

Just be careful not to park your car over any important underground pipes, you don't want to have the falling fault necessitate a plumber's visit.

The BIOS of the computer needs to be set to boot from USB HDDs, which is probably an incredibly simple setting to find and fix, and then either selected from the BIOS's boot device menu on boot or by setting the boot device priority for USB to higher than that for the HDD.

On some computers it will Just Work (tm), but unfortunately not all computers are set up to boot from USB by default...

Global warming and all that...

In an earlier note, I intimated that I was going to write a novelty song re said subject. Well, I've done it!

I "rewrote" the "Jimmy Brown Song"/"The Three Bells"/"The Chapel Lead is Missing" - to tell the story of a cross-eyed farm boy from Gore's hinterland who couldn't tell a bull from a heifer...

I won't tell the whole story here - but it's entitled "An Inconvenient Truth from Gore" or "A Pat on the Head". Influenced by a lot of listening to "My Word": most especially where Messrs. Muir and Norden are given a quotation and come up with shaggy dog stories (and EXCRUCIATING puns) to allegedly explain the quote's provenance. If you don't know what "My Word" is: ask thy mother... :)

To be performed next Sunday night (13th) at the local folk club. Enquiries re performing rights or the lyrics: on a grain of rice to the usual address... lol
