So, I've been inveigled into doing a display for the Society next month. On the subject of a particular sub-grouping of alternative postal provider stamps (the regional sets of New Zealand Mail stamps, if anyone's curious). This means that I actually have to figure out what some of the designs actually show in the first place.

So here is everyone's chance (especially if you're in New Zealand and know your local landmarks) to get revenge for all the times I've picked on other people about their spelling, word usage, what have you. Take a look at the captions of the stamps on my web site and tell me all the mistakes I've made.

Ones which have been particularly problematic include:
Howick - Yes, they're even giving suburbs their own sets of stamps now!
Waikato - All right, they say what town they are a picture from, but what are they pictures of?
Cambridge - how many different photographs of the same statue can one town put on its own stamps? Or is it the same statue?
Waitomo - some of these captions are remarkably uninformative.
Hawera - Visit Scenic Hawera! Marvel at our Water Tower! So amazing we put it on three of our stamps!
Tararua - Uninformative stamps and an uninformative District Council web site. What the farnarkle are these designs supposed to be?
Wellington - What church is that? Why half a coffee machine? Is that even Lyall Bay in the first place?
Nelson - You've named the rest of your beaches, how about naming the one on the Abel Tasman National Park stamp?
Picton - The pictures mean nothing! How badly have I stuffed up by using Google Street View to guess what they are of?
Buller - Which street in Reefton? Who is the old duffer? Which church? Which caves?
Hanmer Springs - Are these somebody's holiday snaps or something? Is there anything I can say other than something banal, like "Two people in a hot spring"?
Christchurch - Yes, I now know who took the photographs on the 50c stamps, thank you very much; now how about actually telling me what they're photographs of?
Wanaka - But what are those skiers doing? (Yes, I know they're skiing - duh - but what sort of skiing?)
Central Otago - Are you ever planning on actually telling us what these pictures are supposed to be?
Dunedin - Does anyone recognise that stained glass window?
Gore - What river is that? What hut is that? What road is that?

But if there's anywhere else anyone's familiar with that there's errors on the relevant page of, feel free to let me know...
