Apparently some idiot up in Wellington has been sucked in by their sales pitch to the movie industry about how it's a real hive of activity, what with having Weta and Peter Jackson up there and James Cameron making Dances With Smurfs* up there and how it's the new movie capital of the world or something like that, and heard some of the local smartarses calling the place "Wellywood". So said idiot thought they ought to get a sign sort of but not quite like the Hollywood sign, up on a hillside near the airport**. Anyway, as it turns out, the idea is no longer a goer due to the original sign having been trademarked, but that hasn't stopped the local comedians from thinking up their own variations...
( My attempt will be meaningless to anyone not familiar with this islandCollapse )

* Which actually sounds like quite a fun movie and I'd like to see it, but if it's as good a movie as a lot of people seem to think it is, then it can certainly survive some gentle snark.
** Yes, I know airports aren't supposed to be anywhere near hillsides. Wellington's a Special Case. Their airport is wedged into a gap between two hillside suburbs. The runway stretches out into Cook Strait at one end and Wellington Harbour at the other end. I've been in planes on that tarmac on two separate occasions, and that was two occasions too often.
