Stranger than Fiction was fairly much the centrepiece of both the band's first and second albums. This is the first album version, on which the string parts are played on a mellotron and the opening lines (based on the back cover blurb of a late 1960s edition of Mervyn Peake's Titus Groan) are spoken, not whispered. The song also runs for about seven minutes, so get yourself a cup of coffee (or equivalent) before settling down for a listen. (The reason it seems to end rather abruptly is that on both recorded versions, the song runs straight into Time for a Change).
