So, without further ado:
5.00 p.m. World still here (as it isn't scheduled to end for an hour yet). Have found a couple of cheap packets of crisps. No beer, but I've got plenty of coffee to keep me awake in case the end of the world isn't entertaining enough to keep me awake.
5.05 p.m. Have located some appropriate music for the party:
5.20 p.m. Have located some more appropriate music:
5.30 p.m. Half an hour to go before things go kaboom. It's getting dark outside, but as it's barely a month from the shortest day, and Invercargill's at about the same latitude as Montreal, that's fairly much to be expected.
5.45 p.m. Well, I'm definitely not going to have been One Of The Virtuous after what I've just nominated for next week's We Choose 40. Speaking of which: there's more music next door. Join the party. Bring some friends.
5.55 p.m. It's now fairly much dark, and people are settling in for their dinners. It looks almost like a party a few houses to the south, but upon closer inspection what look like those silly party torches are radio aerials (the people there must be serious shortwave radio hams) catching the streetlights at an odd angle.
5.59 p.m. So this is it...
6.05 p.m. World still not ended. Have gone out and looked and can't see any angels up in the sky. Not that there's much visible any more, but I also had a good listen and couldn't hear any far-away singing of No Secrets or Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again or anything like that.
6.20 p.m. World still not ended. Will keep an eye on the sky again at about 7 p.m. in case the bloke who thought this up in the first place has got confused by it possibly being daylight saving time over in America where he is.
6.45 p.m. World still not ended. There's tiny little lights up in the sky, but they're stars not angels. There's also a couple of big lights up in the sky, but they're street lights; I can see the poles holding them up.
6.55 p.m. World still not ended. I'll give the angels another ten minutes or so to show up before I put the show on hold.
7.10 p.m. World still not ended. I wonder what the excuse will be. Did someone not read the calendar right. Or maybe he's still working off the Julian calendar and we've got another couple of weeks to wait?
Sunday 22nd May, 5.20 p.m. It's now after 6 p.m. on Saturday in most of the known world (including probably everywhere that anyone reading this is living in, with the possible exception of Hawai'i). World still here. No sad little piles of clothing visible on the streets this afternoon. No reports of duckshooters getting flying ducks confused with the ascending virtuous.
