|Springtime for The Doctor

So, we get the new Doctor Who tonight. Only a few weeks after its British broadcast, which is an improvement on how long it's been taking things to get shown here recently...
So, it's fairly obvious from the title that it's going to be something about people travelling back in time to kill Hitler. That's almost a cliché of time travel. I read a short story a while back that involved people making their first trips into the past always going to Berlin in the 1930s to do the deed before thinking of anyone else, and some sort of Time Agents being stuck there on a semi-permanent basis mending the timestream after all the well-meaning idiots have taken their pot shot.
Now the episode starts. They're hooning around a cornfield in a Mini. Let me guess: they're trying to make a crop circle?
I was thinking it would be River appearing in the sports car. I was wrong.
"Where did you get the car?"
"It's mine. ... Ish."
So... who is this Mel, and why has she suddenly appeared out of nowhere but seem to have been everywhere with Amy and Rory?
"You shot it! You shot my TARDIS!"
"Thank you, whoever you are. I think that you have just saved my life."
"Believe me, it was an accident."
And Rory gets to be the one to clobber Hitler this time.
"I am the Führer!" "In you go."
And she was River all along. That I did not expect.
"It's River Song."
"Who's River Song?"
"What is that banging in my head?"
"I think it's Hitler in the cupboard."
And so that girl who was hanging around with Rory and Amy when they were young, has turned out to have been River Song all along. Is anyone else thinking about comparing this with the "The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix" mini-series?
"I'm a psychopath. I'm not rude."
"Can you ride a motorbike?"
"... I expect so."
"Come on, there must be someone in the Universe I haven't screwed up yet."
And now there are two Amy Ponds. It seems she wasn't so keen on only being a passenger.
And people want to know the answer to the Ultimate Question.
"What is the question?"
... Shouldn't you just build a planet-sized computer to get the answer? Just watch out for Vogons this time.
"She killed me. And then she brought me back. As far as dates go, I'd say that's mixed signals."
And after all the excitement, they just leave Hitler locked in a cupboard. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
