Doctor Who night [Oct. 4th, 2012|10:29 pm]

[music |The Terminals - "Basket Case"]

I think it's official. Stephen Moffat has completely flipped his lid.

"Invasion of the Very Small Cubes. That's new." ... Is this the Revenge of Mr. Rubik or something?

This is interesting. Amy and Rory have let on that ten years has passed for them since they first took a ride in the TARDIS. And that's not even counting the couple of thousand years that Rory the Sort Of Auton spent waiting outside the Pandorica, or the decades that Amy, Robot Fighter spent in quarantine...

"And with your dress sense... you must be the Doctor."

"Within three hours, the cubes had a thousand separate Twitter accounts." "Twitter?"

So people have started acting funny. Bodysnatchers?

And the Zygons get dismissed in one throwaway line, and it all happens off-screen. Burn.

...So, of course, there's fairly much saturation advertising for Rubik's Cubes and their spin-offs throughout tonight's show. At least that meant they didn't have any room left for cigarette advertisements. (For the first time since the new series began. Prime have been screening cigarette advertisements during a show that's at least partly made to be young-viewer friendly. That's the second most insane thing that there's been during this run of the show.)

Second most insane, because the most insane thing just happened tonight. Moffat, I'm blaming you. Yes, I know you didn't script the episode, but you're accountable so you're to blame for either inserting this bit, or leaving it in. One of the cubes is kept under lock and key in a soundproof room. So, the Doctor being the Doctor, he just has to find out why.

We now return you to your scheduled level of insanity.

"Who has an underground base? Terrible ventilation."

"I'm not running away from things. I'm running to them. Before they flare and fade forever." ... That's going to be one of the classic understanding-the-Doctor quotes.

There's a vortex in the goods lift. I think they've done something like this before.

"Seriously weird bedtime story." "You can talk. Wolf in your grandmother's nightie?"

"You can come, Brian." "Somebody's got to stay and water the plants."

I noted something a bit odd with the timeline.

Week before last Rory's father met the Doctor.

Last week, when we're in the wild west, there was a mention of leaving a cellphone charger in Henry VIII's time.

This week we see them in Henry VIII's bed chamber.

I have to wonder which order the Doctor is experiencing things in.

I'd guess the cubes would have first shown up after Rory's dad returned from his world trip, and that the I Can't Believe It's Not Firefly episode was some time during the year of the cubes. ... If it hadn't all taken place in the past it would have been worth while waiting for the DVD and rewatching the episode to try to find any cubes sitting around the place in shot.
