New Zealand got this year's Doctor Who Christmas special early this year.
New theme tune again. This one has a bit more of the electronica of the original thrown in.
Nice TARDIS hiding place this time... a retractable ladder goes up ten feet in the air, then a spiral staircase, then the TARDIS above all that on some sort of not-quite-cloud platform.
Presumed New Companion is interesting so far. Definitely more practical and common-sense than the Doctor is behaving at the moment.
"Children are not my area of expertise."
"They are, however, your children."
Why Does The Sontaran Get The Best Lines? #1: "Do not attempt to escape, or you will be obliterated. May I take your coat?"
"You are not of this world."
"Takes one to snow one."
Why Does The Sontaran Get The Best Lines? #2: "Remain calm, human scum."
It's not the first time the Doctor has impersonated Sherlock Holmes. He was a little more subtle about it last time, though...
Well, that was an ... interesting... episode. I'm calling it 'episode' because, while it's good enough as a long episode, I don't think it's really as 'special' as the other Christmas specials of recent years have been. It's more a teaser for the proper introduction of the new companion. Using recurring characters also makes me think this... although for all that, it's good to see the Silurian and her wife back again. Those two have a bit of an interesting story to tell at some point.
