This is getting to be a worry [Apr. 16th, 2013|07:57 pm]

I don't actually get to go to all that many concerts (mainly because most of the music that interests me doesn't make it this far south), but even so, in the last couple of years, three of the people I've seen in concert have taken up a new career in daisy-pushing. The latest is Dave McArtney (from "Hello Sailor" and "Pink Flamingos", among others).

He's done more music that's better regarded, but my first memory of hearing his songs is this one:

... I reckon it's about time that the New Zealand Music Month people changed their logo to something that looks a bit less like a bull's-eye.

Unfortunately, that you don't get to many concerts makes that record all that more impressive. {sympathetic look}

I hope this is the last musician you like who dies for a good, long while. {hopeful smile}

Well, he's never been one of my top favourites, but he and his bands have always been around and some of their songs have become iconic (one of them ended up as the theme tune to a popular local TV show). Then again, the second long-playing record I ever bought was one of his. (True, it had been remaindered, and cost me all of $1.99, but there were still some good songs on it and a few other tolerable ones).

One of my friends who I've been working in with about various research projects lately, fell off his perch over Easter, so I'm still in a bit of a weird head space about that. I'd gone out and seen him for an afternoon about a month earlier (he was a volunteer at one of the local museums and knew practically everything there was to know about the old settlers of Western Southland) and he was as active as he's always been, so that was rather much of a surprise to everyone.

So he's memorable, if not a favorite. {Smile}

Oh, I didn't realize about your friend. It's hard to lose someone suddenly like that. It's hard enough when you have the warning of an illness ahead of time. When you don't, it's that much more shocking. {Sympathetic Smile, HUG}
